( “Wouldn’t it Be Nice” by Brian Wilson, Tony Asher & Mike Love, 1966)
“Wouldn’t it Be Nice” debuted on the Beach Boys’ groundbreaking
“Pet Sounds” album in 1966. “Pet Sounds” showcased the amazing
songwriting, arranging and studio prowess of Brian Wilson.
(Paul McCartney & the Beatles were provoked to try & “top” this LP
with THEIR next release, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”)
Before this Elton John/Brian Willson duet begins, Elton praises
Brian’s brilliance as a composer, stating that Wilson ‘changed the goalposts’
of pop music with his use of inverted chords. This is from the
Mar. 21, 2001 “An All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson,” recorded at
New York’s Radio City Music Hall.
